Nigeria’s opposition United Progressives Party UPP is happy with the national assembly over the proposed amendment of the laws guiding the order of elections ahead of 2019.
The party made this known in a press statement signed by its national Chairman Chekwas Okorie.
The party said the band wagon effect where any party that wins the presidential election goes on to win majority positions in the national assembly and state assemblies will be brought to an end by this amendment.
The party said it is satisfied that INEC has given assurance that it will comply with the provisions of the law provided that the period specified by the constitution of Nigeria for such amendments to be completed is complied with.
It is excited by the involvement of stakeholders in canvassing for mass participation in the continuous voter registration exercise and urged all who have not registered to do so.
The party also wants the national assembly to appropriate adequate funds to INEC to enable it conduct free and fair elections next year.
